The second largest city is Winston-Salem N.C. is only 75 minutes away from Blue Ridge Estates. Winston-Salem has everything that a major city has: restaurants, shopping, and hospitals. Mt. Airy N.C. is just west of Winston Salem, about a 48 minute drive from Blue Ridge Estates. Mt Airy is the town that Andy Griffith based the town of Mayberry after in the Andy Griffith Show. Andy grew up in Mt. Airy but he did not want to disturb his childhood home Mt. Airy with throngs of tourists or fans of the show so instead of naming the town in the show directly after his home town, he decided on calling it Mayberry. Mt. Airy is the largest city that is closest to Blue Ridge Estates, it has all the amenities of a big city such as: hospitals, restaurants, franchises, strip malls and an indoor shopping mall the Colonial Mayberry Mall here you can find name brand retailers such as: JCPENNY, KMART, Bath and Body Works, and other assorted retailers. Galax VA. Is situated just 15 minutes north of Blue Ridge Estates in the beautiful state of Virginia. Galax is smaller than Mt. Airy it is the closest town with major retailers, Walmart , Lowes, McDonald’s, Movie theater and assorted shops and restaurants are all in Galax.  Galax’s downtown Main Street seems to be a trip back into time your typical main street USA. Sparta N.C. is 18 minutes southwest of Blue Ridge Estates a small town in comparison with Galax. The town of Sparta is made up of several strip malls with a  typical southern courthouse in the center of town. There are several gas stations, a self car wash, Taco Bell, several restaurants/cafes, hospital, supermarket and other assorted retailers.
